Unpacking China is dedicated to helping global audiences understand China—beyond the headlines, stereotypes, and surface impressions. We believe that real understanding starts with honest stories, cultural insights, and practical knowledge that bridge the gap between East and West.
The Story Behind
The project began with Unpacking China: 50 Essential Q&As for First-Time Visitors, a book designed to answer the questions most people have—but rarely ask—about China. From the concept of “face” and “guanxi” to navigating food culture and everyday social norms, the book distills complex ideas into accessible, engaging narratives.
As the book reached more readers, the conversation expanded. Our TikTok channel, @YuanUnpacksChina, has become a growing community of people curious about China’s past, present, and future.
About the Founder
Unpacking China was created by Yuanpu Huang, an entrepreneur, author, and globalization researcher. Yuanpu has visited over 50 countries, studied at China Foreign Affairs University, NYU Stern School of Business, and Tsinghua University, and has spoken at leading universities and forums worldwide. His work combines rigorous research with relatable storytelling, aiming to make China’s complexities accessible to everyone.
